Blowing Rock – American Legion

First built and opened in the late 1940s by a group of WWII veterans returned home from the war, the American Legion Hall has been a fixture of the Blowing Rock community for many decades. GCI was honored to have the opportunity to work with the Town of Blowing Rock and David Patrick Moses Architect on this historic project and help preserve the legacy of those veterans and countless others who fought to protect the freedoms we still enjoy in our country today. There were many challenges with this job, including the removal of a large portion of the rear elevation in order to provide stunning views of the park below. Also, a large wooden deck structure off the rear of the building extends the usable square footage considerably during the beautiful Spring and Summer months in the High Country. Another rewarding part of the project was preserving and refinishing the beautiful original oak floor. The exterior of the building received a face lift with new siding, stone accents and timber framed elements to create a warm and welcoming appeal. Many of our crew commented on how they enjoyed the opportunity to work on something with a little more character and interest than the industrial type of projects we often do. It is our hope that we will have more and more opportunity to work on projects like this one.
